Long Realigns With Hover Motorsports:
After a brief hiatus, Carl Long will be back
behind the wheel of the #80 Hover Motorsports Ford
for nine of the eleven remaining NASCAR NEXTEL Cup
Series races this season beginning next weekend at
Richmond International Raceway for the running of
the Chevy Rock & Roll 400. Long will run the other
two races with his own #46 Dodge in these
scheduled events: Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire
International Speedway (9/19) and UAW-GM Quality
500 at Lowe's Motor Speedway (10/16). Carl has no
plans to race this weekend at California Speedway.

8/25/04 Long Released
From Hover Motorsports:
Carl Long was released from the #80 Hover Motorsports
Ford Monday afternoon due to financial reasons. An
opportunity coasted by team owner Stan Hover's way
that he could not pass up. Hover and Long parted on
good terms; the split was strictly economical. Carl
Long is looking to get back into a driver's seat soon,
but in the meantime, he will concentrate on his job
with Spears Motorsports. Stay tuned for updates...

Rain Hands Long A Spot Into Cup Field:
A persistent rain canceled both NASCAR NEXTEL Cup
and Busch Series qualifying scheduled to be held
today at Michigan International Speedway. Current
owner points set the starting lineups. Luckily for
Carl, the Hover Motorsports team had enough
qualifying attempts to earn them a spot into the
field of the GFS Marketplace 400. Carl Long will
start the #80 Commercial Truck & Trailer Ford in
43rd spot for Sunday's GFS Marketplace 400. This
will kick off the first event of many more races
that Long and Hover Motorsports will run together
in NASCAR NEXTEL Cup. As for the Busch Series side
of Carl's double duty weekend, the outcome was not
as fortunate. The #07 Moy Racing Ford had not made
enough attempts to secure them a spot into the
field of the Cabela's 250.

Long To Run Remainder Of Cup Schedule With Hover:
Carl Long has announced today that he plans to
drive the #80 Hover Motorsports Ford Taurus for
the rest of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series season
starting this weekend at Michigan International
Speedway. Hover Motorsports is in need of extra
help at their race shop in Salisbury, North
Carolina. In order for the #80 Ford to be
competitive on the track week after week, Hover
Motorsports needs individuals with some experience
to help work on their racecars in the race shop.
Carl is still working for Spears Motorsports,
however, he has stepped down from his weekend
position as truck chief. Carl Long will be
driving for Moy Racing this weekend at Michigan
International Speedway in the NASCAR Busch Series
Cabela's 250. Long has taken the opportunity to
help out the team and get himself some extra track
time in the process.

What's Next On The Schedule:
Carl Long will be running the NASCAR Busch Series
race this Saturday at Indianapolis Raceway Park
driving the #01 Whitaker Racing Chevrolet.
Carl's next NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race will be
the GFS Marketplace 400 at Michigan International
Speedway on August 22nd. Long will be behind the
wheel of Stan Hover's #80 Hover Motorsports Ford.
8/8/04 Withdrawal From
Busch Event: Carl Long and Whitaker
Racing elected to withdraw their #01 Chevrolet
from running the Kroger 200 at IRP this past
weekend. They felt that they were not prepared
enough just yet to make a competitive venture into
the NASCAR Busch Series.

Early End To Penn 500 For Long:
Due to a persistent rain all day Saturday, both
NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series practices were canceled,
leaving no on-track practice time for the teams
before the race. The #80 Commercial Truck &
Trailer Ford crew had to set up the car for race
conditions to the best of their ability. Much to
their disappointment, the car did not handle well
on Sunday. Carl Long spent much of the early laps
of the Pennsylvania 500 trying to stay out of the
way of faster traffic. After around 30 laps into
the race, NASCAR had radioed to Carl's crew to pit
and attempt to improve their car as it was not up
to minimum speed. The team made a few
modifications to the car, and elected to wait for
a caution to come out to make more major changes.
However, on lap 44, one lap before a caution would
eventually come out, NASCAR radioed to the crew
again, and told the team to park their car because
it still was not meeting minimal race speed.
According to NASCAR rules, if you are unable to
get your car up to minimum speed after already
attempting to fix it once before, your day is
done. Having no other choice, Carl Long pulled the
Hover Motorsports Ford into the garage after only
completing 44 laps, finishing 39th.

Long Lands Spot In Pennsylvania 500 Field:
Carl Long made his qualifying run early on Friday
afternoon in the #80 Hover Motorsports Ford. Long
put up a good lap in qualifying that looked like
it could be good enough to make the field of the
Pennslyvania 500 on speed. As each team rolled
through their qualifying run, cloud cover rolled
across the sky at Pocono Raceway late in the
session, making for ideal qualifying conditions.
Unfortunately, the #80 Hover Motorsports Ford
became the last car to get bumped out of the top
38 in qualifying, sending Long to a provisional
starting spot for Sunday's race. Carl will line up
43rd on the grid for Sunday's Pennsylvania 500.
Starts 43rd (39th Fastest)
